ANNOUNCER: Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen.  We'd like to direct your
attention to the South end of the field where the Award-Winning University of
Virginia fighting Cavaliers Indoor/Outdoor Precision? Marching Pep Band and
Chowder Society-Revue, Unlimited takes great pleasure in introducing several
Varsity Band Lettermen making their final appearance in Scott Stadium this
afternoon.

Halftime - 'Maryland Band':

ANNOUNCER: (Great flourish)  We are proud to present the University of Maryland
Marching Band, with Drum Major from Middletown, Maryland, Kyler Brengel.

	(Drum Major & 2 instrumentalists highstep to first formation: two points on a
yardline, drum major off to side.)

ANNOUNCER: The Maryland Band begins today's kaleidoscopic halftime presentation
with its famous "two points determine a straight line" formation, to the music of
that all-time favorite patriotic air, "This Land Is Your Land."

	(Accordion & bass drum play; march to next formation: three points)

ANNOUNCER: Next, we augment the band by adding in our drum major, Mr. Brengel,
for the famous "three points determine a plane" formation, with that spine
tingling favorite of Americans everywhere, "This Land Is Your Land."

	(Play; march to next formation: center member with streamers to other two.)

ANNOUNCER: For a truly spectacular finale, the band initiates a 6-month
celebration of May Day with an elaborate Maypole, to the awe-inspiring melody of
"This Land Is Your Land."

	(Circle around Maypole; bow down to audience.)

ANNOUNCER: Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, and let's have a big hand for the
University of Maryland Marching Band!!!

	(Band leaves field to thunderous applause.)

ANNOUNCER: (regular Scott Stadium announcer)  Welcome to the twentieth annual
University of Virginia Band Day.  We are pleased to welcome today 37 high school
bands from thoughout the Commonwealth, ranging in size from 38 to 173 members,
under the direction of Dr. John Phillip Sousa, with special guest conductor
Lieutenant William Calley, of the Fort Leavenworth, Kansas Army Band.  --  Mr.
Claus's wardrobe furnished by the fine merchants at the Barracks Road Shopping
Center.  (Pep Band announcer)  Simon sez, bands face the west stands -- ready,
turn!  Simon sez, bands face the east stands -- ready, turn!  Now face the
conductor's stand -- ready, turn!  Ah-ah-ah!  Simon didn't say it!  --  Simon
sez, bands face the conductor's stand -- ready, turn!

	MUSIC: Bugler's Dream, each 'band' starting and finishing at a different time.
	GUNSHOT: Form #1: S.

ANNOUNCER: The 37 bands now combine to complete our mystery word of the year by
forming the sixth and final mystery letter of the week.  Conveniently, 'S' also
happens to be the third and fifth letters of the name 'Moses,' the first name of
Mr. Malone, who left Lefty in a lurch when he reneged on his Maryland basketball
contract to play for the Utah Stars.

	MUSIC: Sweet Georgia Brown
	GUNSHOT: Form #2: Mickey Mouse Ears.

ANNOUNCER: The Maryland Band recently announced a contest to compose a new school
fight song.  Since so few suitable songs were submitted, the 37 bands wish to
make the supreme sacrifice by offering to share with Maryland their own favorite
fight song for the past several years, a tune known and beloved by all in this
University.  They respectfully submit - The Maryland Mouse Club Theme Song.

	MUSIC: Mickey Mouse Club Them Song; slows at end for

ANNOUNCER: (M-I-C) See ya real soon... (K-E-Y) Why?  Because we like you!

	GUNSHOT: form #3: Suspension Bridge.

ANNOUNCER: Now the 37 bands salute one of the University's most outstanding
schools by portraying a triumph of modern engineering, a suspension bridge
without the suspension.  Cheer along now on our two E-school cheers and E-school
theme song.

	CHEER: E-Schoo, E-School, Hewlett Packare/E-School, E-School, SR-50/Secant,
Tangent, Complement, HEY!
	MUSIC: London Bridge, falls down as band plays.

ANNOUNCER: In the interest of time, the 37 bands now combine several salutes into
one.  First, a tribute to those munificent merchants who are trying to turn the
12 *days* of Christmas into the 12 *months*.  Second, we hail the Christmas
season by forming a Christmas tree.  Obviously, since the bands are playing on
artificial green turf, they have formed an artificial green tree.  And third, a
backhanded salute to the University of Maryland as the bands play "Oh Maryland,
My Christmas Tree."

	MUSIC: O Christmas Tree (aka O Maryland, My Maryland)

ANNOUNCER: In the interest of equal time, as required by the FTC, the 37 bands
now play that favorite song of New Year's Eve, "The Good Old Acquantance Be
Forgot," to be followed by the famous "Auld Lang Syne Cheer."

	MUSIC: The Good Old Song (aka, Auld Lang Syne) with cheer.

ANNOUNCER: The 37 bands now form an outline of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Watch closely as the bands hail the great progress that the Commonwealth has made
in recent years.

	(Western end of state sprouts antennae, forming a snail.)
	MUSIC: Carry Me Back To Old Virginny, as snail crawls toward endzone.
	GUNSHOT: Band forms: END.

ANNOUNCER: And now the part of the Saturday Afternoon Concert Series that you've
all been waiting for -- the end!
