The Pep Band Welcomes Florida State

The largest band in the ACC is recently arrived Florida State. They have somewhere around 600 guys in wool suits. Quite a sight. As I said, they just joined the conference a couple of years ago, and when they came up for the football game 2 seasons ago, it was an interesting encounter. We went over to say hi. They looked pretty big, and we were like, "How many people did you bring?" They said, "Well we didn't know we were coming until like 36 hours ago, so we could only scare up about 180 people." Needless to say, there have *never* been 180 people in the Pep Band. It was fun when we took the field as well. Of course, they had never seen anything like us in their lives. (Didn't help that it was Halloween, and some of us were in costume - a guy named Wahoo was dressed in his "Captain CavePerson" outfit, carrying the "Dr. Seuss-a-phone" over his shoulder; I was just in standard vest, with a cowbell and mallet in my belt, doing a little juggling; my buddy Joe was in his blue blazer and tie with his Ray-Bans and Virginia hat, toting a trumpet. As we wandered near the FSU section, we could see them all pushing up against the front rail, pointing and elbowing, camera flashes going off. What a riot. We took it easy on 'em for starters and did some University of Florida jokes (their chief rival).)
